Factors to Consider

Each specimen I work with in producing a quality mount has its own unique characteristics and challenges. These factors are beyond my control, however, I do my best to work with what I am given. Rarely am I able to inspect capes at the time of drop off due to them being frozen in a bag or salt dried.  There is no way to assess the condition of a specimen until the tanning process is completed. Only at this point am I able to provide a quote to fix excessive damage if needed. The tanned skin is equivalent to the foundation of a building, if it is not of good quality the entire process will be affected and it will show in the final product. For this reason I personally tan each cape myself, individually, for quality control.

Some common factors which can affect the price due to the amount of work involved in preparing a specimen include:

  • Time of year (prime or not prime)
  • Physical attributes of the animal (split ears, scars, infection)
  • Damage from falling after being shot
  • Bullet damage
  • Knife damage
  • Excessive or poor opening cut placement
  • Bacterial damage
  • Excessively dirty and or bloody capes

Quality comes with a price. This is true in everything you shop for.  Treeline Taxidermy uses the highest quality products and supplies combined with decades of experience in techniques developed through trial and error, training and sharing of knowledge with other craftsmen. I take pride in my work, I choose quality and longevity over volume.

A great deal of thought has gone into setting the prices for my work. Reflected in these prices is the quality of the materials I use, the time required for each piece, the location of my shop and all of the expenses associated with living and conducting business in the North.

Once we have discussed your project and an estimated quote has been given, I require a 50% deposit before your project is entered in my schedule and before any work can begin. This deposit is non refundable.
